Racial Defamation (Diffamation racial) - The Court of Appeal of Versailles issued a ruling concerning an article published in Le Monde on June 4, 2002, titled "Israel-Palestine: the cancer" – The Association France Israel ("AFI") and the Association Avocats Sans Frontières ("ASF") had argued that certain statements in the article constituted racial defamation and an apology for terrorism – The appellate court overturned the lower court's ruling, specifically addressing two passages from the article which they deemed to be racially defamatory. These segments suggested that Israelis, having historically been victims of persecution, had themselves become oppressors of Palestinians: a portrayal that, according to the court, amounted to racial defamation.
