A former member of the NSDAP, the SS, and the Gestapo was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity. As part of his work with the Gestapo, the man was stationed in Ciechanów (Zichenau) in the occupied territories of Poland. There, he played a role in the fascists’ bureaucratic apparatus of persecution. In this capacity, he was involved in countless deportations and arbitrary arrests of Polish citizens. In addition to deportations to concentration camps, this also included deportations to forced-labor camps, which affected, among others, Jewish citizens who refused to wear the Star of David on their clothing. Not only did the convicted man approve of the torture methods used during interrogations, but he also carried out some of them himself.His crimes also include supporting the mass deportations of Jewish people to so-called General Governments (ghettos), which took place under inhumane and cruel conditions. The convicted man was aware that these deportations were measures that served the larger goal of the extermination of all Jewish people, which the Nazi regime pursued.
