Suspension of sentence pronounced for complicity in crimes against humanity (Suspension de la peine prononcée pour complicité de crimes contre l'humanité) – The Court of Appeal has ordered the suspension of a ten-year prison sentence handed down against a man for complicity in crimes against humanity (notably deportation of Jews) - Associations Les fils et filles des déportés juifs de France, l'Union consistoire central des communautés juives de France and Fédération nationale des déportés et internés résistants patriotes are acting against the suspension - Article 720-1-1, paragraph 1, of the French Code of Criminal Procedure, which provides for the possibility of suspending a custodial sentence, regardless of its nature or duration, and for an unspecified period of time, in the case of convicts found to be suffering from a life-threatening pathology or whose state of health is permanently incompatible with continued detention, does not set any conditions relating to the nature of the offences punished or the existence of a risk of disturbance to public order.
